Operating Systems NorthSoft Systems has definite preferences for Operating Systems, and we divide these into two categories: Servers and Workstations. Servers We are fans of Windows 2003 Server, and use two of them in our own operations. Windows 2000 Server is also a friendly and reliable server O/S. If you only want to run a small LAN of 10 or less users, you can probably get away with using a computer running Windows 2000 or XP Professional Workstation as a server. This represents a huge cost savings. Workstations We prefer Windows XP Professional or Windows 2000 Professional Workstation for all workstations. We prefer them because they are very reliable. However, NorthSoft Systems applications will run on any 32 bit version of Windows. Windows ‘98SE is a good third choice. We do not suggest Windows ME or ’95. We don’t recommend XP Home Edition because of its networking limitations.
